Vagabond opens London’s largest urban winery at Canada Water

Vagabond Wines has opened a 6,000-square-foot urban winery in Canada Water, combining large-scale winemaking with wine bars, dining and education in a single London venue.

Vagabond Wines has opened what it describes as London’s largest urban winery at Canada Water, bringing a fully operational winemaking site into the heart of the capital.

Spread across 6,000 square feet, the new venue houses a 100-tonne working cellar alongside spaces for drinking and dining. Guests can taste wine directly from tank or barrel, choose from more than 100 wines by the glass via Vagabond’s self-serve machines, or visit for anything from a single drink to a full meal.

Designed to cater for after-work visits as well as larger celebrations, the site has opened ahead of the Christmas party season and will begin hosting large private events and wedding receptions from early 2026.

Winemaking, tasting and education under one roof

In addition to the bar and cellar, Vagabond Canada Water will offer a range of experiences created specifically for the site. These include guided winery tours, winemaking workshops, tasting flights and sessions at The Vagabond Academy, the company’s wine education programme aimed at drinkers with varying levels of knowledge.

The opening forms part of a wider investment programme backed by Majestic Wine and Fortress Investment Group, supporting Vagabond’s next phase of growth.

Founded in 2010 as a local wine shop in Fulham, Vagabond has since developed into a wine bar business centred on self-serve tasting machines. Its own wines are made by an in-house winemaking team at its urban wineries in Battersea and now Canada Water, using grapes sourced from within two hours of London.

Part of Canada Water regeneration

The Canada Water winery opens as part of British Land’s regeneration of the area and is located close to the new leisure centre and the waterside.

Christobell Giles, managing director at Vagabond Wines, said: “This is where London meets the vineyard. Winemaking has come back to the water and we have built a space that connects people to craft, creativity and community. You can feel the energy of the cellar while you drink. It is wine discovery made simple, modern and fun.”

The new site will also quadruple Vagabond’s English wine production, with all wines made on site. Visitors will be able to taste these wines at an early stage, including samples poured directly from tank or barrel.
