The numbers behind IGP Méditerranée’s impressive growth

While many regions are accustomed to a gloomy outlook, IGP Méditerranée is showing considerable growth in the UK. db crunches the numbers.

During the period from January to August 2025, exports of IGP Méditerranée wines of all colours totalled 15,667 hectolitres, representing a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Despite this impressive growth, there remains significant potential for further expansion as the UK market continues to show strong demand for Southern French wines.

Red and rosé wines represent 93% of the region’s total exports to the UK, with a 17% cumulative increase by the end of August 2025. During the same period IGP Méditerranée wines saw a notable increase in UK retail sales volume, especially its rosé, which accounts for 91% of sales and grew by 54% compared to 2024.

UK market momentum & creative freedom

What is the momentum behind IGP Méditerranée wines? They are well matched to wider market trends. A recent CGA Wine Insights Report showed rosé wine exports to the UK growing 7.4% in value in a 12 month period, outpacing the broader still wine category. British consumers are embracing rosé year-round, with 56% enjoying it beyond summer months and 34% choosing it in on-trade venues. IGP Méditerranée wines are fulfilling these expectations with their friendly style, excellent quality and accessible prices.

Blending is at the core of IGP Méditerranée’s identity. This creative freedom of blending from a palette of over 100 grape varieties allows winemakers to craft wines with balance, freshness and expressive fruit profiles. Rosés are pale and crisp, made with prominent grape varieties such as Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Caladoc; reds are supple and fruity and include the Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Mourvèdre grape varieties; and the bright and fresh whites include the Viognier, Vermentino and Roussanne grape varieties. Production is around 730,000 hectolitres per year, with a colour breakdown of 65% rosé, 20% red and 15% white.
