Outlaw Light expands in Ohio, marking the rise of low calorie beer
Denver’s Tivoli Brewing Company has boosted the distribution of its Outlaw Light Beer brand across the state of Ohio. Jessica Mason reports.

The 4.2% ABV beer, which is just 104 calories per serving, will now be available via Superior Beverage, NWO, Stangaro and Bonbright, spanning the entirety of Ohio.
Drinking beer in moderation has been reported as something that could be good for your gut and immunity, stimulating microbiota diversity, according to a nutritional review that makes the case for how beer could exert “greater effects than probiotics”.
A ‘major milestone’
Speaking to the drinks business, Outlaw CEO Ari Opsahl said: “Ohio is a major milestone for us, not just in distribution but in the kind of brand we’re building.”
Opsahl admitted that he has a clear idea of where he wants the brand to be, but a lot of its expansion is based on the fact that people buy into it because it is a brand that has not lost sight of where it began.

Opsahl explained: “This expansion helps accelerate our vision of making premium-priced, easy-drinking beer accessible to more people without losing the authenticity that got us here” and told db: “Every time Outlaw enters a new state, we’re able to listen, learn and grow with a whole new community of beer drinkers.”
Giving more indication as to why this is a bit of a success story for craft brand owners and their businesses, Opsahl pointed out that the expansion into Ohio is win-win and said: “For beer lovers, it means more opportunities to discover a light beer that doesn’t cut corners — and for Outlaw, it marks another step toward becoming a true national contender in an industry long dominated by legacy brands.”
‘Pride, charm and community spirit’
Opsahl also highlighted how much he valued the state and how the brand chimed well with its ethos. This, he said was what attracted the brewer to the distribution partnerships there. Primarily, because of Ohio’s “pride, charm and community spirit [which] reflect exactly what our brand stands for”.
Bonbright vice president of sales and marketing Jared A. Fiehrer backed up the brand’s potential and added: “Outlaw Light represents everything we believe a good partner should embody, great liquid, authentic brand story and a connection with today’s beer drinker. We feel that Outlaw Light has the potential to become a standout brand in the light beer category, and we are excited to partner with them.”
