Onikishi Japanese Whisky doubles down on European expansion

Milestone Beverages has announced significant expansion for its Japanese whisky brand Onikishi across Europe, now available in 15 markets in the region.

Onikishi Japanese Whisky is now available in 15 European markets including France, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Ukraine.

Milestone Beverages has said Europe has become its priority region, and will continue to be the focus of its international expansion strategy. The company has achieved 70% year-on-year sales growth in Europe for its brands, led by Onikishi.

“Europe has quickly become the growth engine for our business, and Onikishi is leading that charge,” said Joe Milner, Milestone Beverages managing director.

Key new distribution partnerships have boosted the brand’s availability across different European markets. In France, Onikishi has joined forces with spirits specialist Maison Villevert, which partners with businesses across the on-trade and off-trade channels.

In Sweden, the brand partners with Galatea AB, one of the Nordic region’s largest distributors, while Onesti Group in Italy, Qantima Group in Spain, and Helsinki Group in the Czech Republic each bring strong local expertise to the table.

In Switzerland, Onikishi is represented by Ullrich, and in Ukraine, by Wine Hunters, whose partnership has helped establish the brand even amid challenging market conditions.

“With Maison Villevert, Wine Hunters, and our other strong distribution partners, we’ve built a solid foundation across the continent to bring authentic Japanese craftsmanship to a rapidly expanding audience of whisky lovers,” Milner added.

Distilled and blended in Japan, the Onikishi range includes three expressions:

  • Onikishi Demon Knight
  • Onikishi Sakura, a whisky aged in cherry blossom casks
  • Onikishi Tenbatsu, an expression aged for twelve years
