Immersion Collection celebrates 40 years of Champagne Thiénot

Maison Thiénot is marking four decades of Champagne production by releasing three grand cru cuvées from its family vinothèque.

Having already embarked on a major investment – Le 3, its tourism hub – was recently announced, Champagne Thiénot is releasing three special bottlings from its family vinothèque. The cuvées, collectively named The Immersion Collection, form part of the 40th anniversary celebrations at Champagne Thiénot, and will be available in the UK through Champagnes & Châteaux.

Each of the three editions is a vintage blanc de blancs sourced from the Grand Cru vineyards of Cramant and Oger. While Cramant brings precision and minerality to the blend, Oger is much admired for its old vines, which lend the Champagne richness.

They have each received playful monikers to reflect the distinct conditions of their vintages. The 2015 is ‘The Warmth of Balance’, the 2016 is ‘The Sparkle of the Unexpected’ and the 2017 is ‘The Expression of Delicacy’. They collectively tell the story of three vintages, but each is also informed by Champagne’s – and the Thiénot family’s – history.

The label designs are taken from cartography, symbolic of the journey through the city of Reims, the maison’s vineyards and Le 3. In their presentation, the bottles bind Champagne Thiénot’s 40-year history to the centuries of heritage of Champagne.

“With Immersion, we invite Champagne lovers to dive into the heart of Thiénot’s story – a story shaped by time, precision, and family spirit,” explains Stanislas Thiénot, who with his sister Garance runs the company.

“Each vintage captures a different facet of our journey, linking the past and future of the House with the same passion that has guided us for forty years.”

Celebrating a remarkable story

The maison may be relatively young in the world of Champagne, but there is considerable expertise behind it. The Immersion Collection thus continues a significant history of quality at Champagne Thiénot.

The Expression of Delicacy, one of the new releases.

Alain Thiénot has decades of experience as a broker and, through Arvitis, owns Canard-Duchêne, Champagne Joseph Perrier and Champagne Marie Stuart, as well as estates in Bordeaux and the US. His influence on the business of Champagne cannot be understated.

However, Champagne Thiénot is a very personal project. It is a family legacy, with his children Stanislas and Garance now running the maison. In fact, the Collection Famille has paid tribute to each of them in named, fine cuvées.

The personal connection also comes from Champagne’s lands; Thiénot sources more than half its grapes from its own vineyards. The team, therefore, cannot sit at a distance from production. Indeed, chief winemaker Nicolas Uriel is trained both as an agronomist and oenologist, helping ensure quality from vine to bottle.

Thus Champagne Thiénot has built a reputation for quality over its 40 year history. That was evident from the beginning, for instance, when Alain Thiénot installed temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve aromas. It is evident now, as the maison whole-heartedly embraces visitors and oenotourism.

The Immersion Collection is a fitting way to celebrate quality and welcome more drinkers to the world of Champagne Thiénot. From 40 years of history, to vintages of the last 10 years, to investment in the future, the maison is going from strength to strength.
