SIBA teams with Licensed Trade Charity to support brewers’ wellbeing
The Society of Independent Brewers and Associates (SIBA) is joining forces with the Licensed Trade Charity (LTC) to launch a series of wellbeing and practical support services to SIBA members, their employees and families. Ensuring brewers have wraparound support is “crucial to the health of their business,” SIBA CEO Andy Slee told db.
This comes as the brewing sector battles heavy headwinds, with beer sales hit by cost-of-living pressures, and rising input costs – from energy to packaging – squeezing margins. A decline in alcohol consumption, increased taxation and market access restrictions also put breweries, and subsequently, their brewers, under pressure. Data released earlier this year revealed the number of breweries is continuing to drop: there were 136 fewer breweries in the UK in May than the prior spring.
Speaking to the drinks business, SIBA CEO makes the case that strong breweries and mental health support are linked: “The brewing industry is an exciting and vibrant sector, but it is also highly competitive and often challenging, and ensuring brewers and their teams have financial, mental and wellbeing support is absolutely crucial to the health of their business,” he says.
And that’s why SIBA is teaming up with LTC to launch services to support the mental health and practical wellbeing of their members, as well as their families and employees.

‘Help is available’
“The LTC has a long and respected history of supporting those who work across the hospitality sector, and we are thrilled that their expert services will now be available to SIBA members via a dedicated members’ portal,” added SIBA CEO Andy Slee.
Through this partnership all employees at SIBA member breweries will have access to a confidential portal offering a range of resources and support, including wellbeing, financial advice and practical assistance.
LTC CEO Chris Welham said he was “delighted” to partner with SIBIA to extend its support to brewers and their teams. “Running or working in a brewery brings huge rewards but also unique pressures, and we want every member of the SIBA community to know that expert help is available whenever life becomes challenging.
“Whether it’s financial worries, mental health support, or practical guidance, the LTC is here to ensure that nobody in the brewing sector has to face difficult times alone.”
