Ringwood Brewery sold to property developer
Carlsberg Britvic has sold Hampshire’s Ringwood Brewery to Pennyfarthing Homes, a move that will see the historic site turned into the business’s new office headquarters.

Ringwood Brewery, which used to produce approximately 42,000 barrels of beer each year as well as sponsor the New Forest Show, was put up for sale in 2023 by Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company (CMBC), now known as Carlsberg Britvic.
At the same time, CMBC moved production from Ringwood and, in 2024, closed the brewery completely and moved brands such as Razorback, Fortyniner and Boondoggle to Banks’s Brewery in Wolverhampton, while Old Thumper cask brewing moved to Marston’s Brewery in Burton.
The decision received criticism online in what some called “corporate vandalism” since the move had also followed CMBC’s closure of both Wychwood and Jennings breweries. Around the same time, CMBC had claimed that the “decline of the cask ale market” was the core reason behind such closures.
Now, the fate of the building lies in the hands of the developer, which has said that it is preparing to convert the brewery into offices.

This week, Pennyfarthing Homes executive chairman Mark Adams revealed in local reports that the redevelopment of the brewery will “provide Pennyfarthing with a new base” and named Ringwood as “a prime location”.
The developer has already sold on two of the warehouse buildings to event production company Brighter Productions which will also be based at the former Ringwood Brewery site.
Sean Tompkins, of Brighter Productions described Pennyfarthing’s vision for the redevelopment of the brewery as “inspiring”.
Carlsberg Britvic property and facilities director David Bodily said: “We welcome Pennyfarthing’s plans”.
Work on converting the brewery is anticipated to start next year.
