Asda showcases record-breaking autumn/winter wine range

The retailer’s latest line-up expands its global reach, with seasonal styles and direct-sourced wines designed for strong value delivery.

Following on from its spring/summer range, where exploration was the focus, Asda’s autumn/winter 2025 showcase highlights wines for the colder months – from comforting reds to textural whites and bottles perfect for gifting.

The new line-up spans 111 wines and seven beers, including an Italian sparkling red, a Corsican red debut in the retailer’s Wine Atlas range, and bespoke South African whites made with Stellenrust.

Record results at the UK’s top competitions

Asda reports a record year for its wine portfolio, securing 395 medals across major competitions – more than any other UK supermarket. These include nine golds and 91 silvers at the International Wine Challenge (IWC), Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) and International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC).

The retailer was also shortlisted for Own-Label Range of the Year at the IWC, collected more Great Value Awards than any other UK retailer, and won two of the IWC’s top trophies – for Exceptional Prosecco Brut and Exceptional Great Western Shiraz.

The latter also picked up the IWC Great Value Red Trophy, underscoring Asda’s strength in offering distinctive wines from less familiar regions at accessible prices.

Diversity and depth across the range

Among the highlights is the Extra Special Côtes de Beaune-Villages, which took gold – the only red Burgundy under £15 from a UK supermarket to do so, while other examples can cost hundreds.

Other gold-winning wines span a range of styles and origins: Gavi di Gavi and Lugana from northern Italy, Gewürztraminer from Alsace, the Azul Alvarinho from Portugal, and classics such as Rioja Reserva and LBV Port.

While golds make the headlines, the 91 silver medals demonstrate consistent quality across Asda’s range. “In competitions judged by world-class experts, a silver medal is a true mark of excellence,” the company notes.

‘Value is more than price’

Asda continues to emphasise value as a balance of quality and affordability. “Delivering great value is a core value for Asda,” said James Yelland, senior manager for buying – wine. “We’ve raised wine quality by entering our own-label and exclusive wines into the UK’s top competitions.”

Behind the range lies Asda’s IPL (International Procurement & Logistics) model, which sources wines directly from producers on five continents. This allows the retailer to work at the blending bench with winemakers and unlock access to wineries not available to other UK retailers.

Expanding into beer collaborations

For the first time, the retailer’s tasting also included craft beer collaborations with respected UK breweries such as Black Sheep, Salt, and Kirkstall.

From a Yorkshire Bitter to a Double IPA, the collection mirrors the same ethos that underpins Asda’s wine range – hands-on production by passionate makers delivering great-tasting products at accessible prices.
