Top wineries of Great Britain 2025 announced

A comprehensive blind tasting of English wines carried out by Australian publication The Real Review has revealed Sussex producer Nyetimber as this year’s stand-out producer. How does your favourite GB winery rank?

A winemaker walks his vineyard with two buckets with grapes from which he will measure PH and sugar levels to see if they are ready for harvesting.

This morning saw the veil lifted on one of the world’s most comprehensive blind tastings of wines from Great Britain.

Led by The Real Review, official tasters for the competition included Stephen Wong MW, Jane Skilton MW, certified sommelier and wine buyer Gabrielle Poy, leading Australian wine writer Huan Hooke and db contributor Anthony Rose.

The Real Review’s expert panel blind tastes around 10,000 wines per year, with a particular focus on Australia and New Zealand, providing ratings and reviews “to empower consumers and elevate their wine experiences.” An algorithm then uses those unbiased reviews to generate the Top Wineries list based on scores.

In addition to the ‘Top Wineries’ list, individual expressions were awarded in categories including Sparkling Wine of the Year Great Britain 2025 and Sparkling Rosé of the Year Great Britain 2025. Medals were also handed out for best Blanc de Blancs and best Blanc de Noirs.

These individualised awards provided some intriguing results.

For instance, while Kent producer Chapel Down came fifth on the list of ‘Top Wineries’, its Chapel Down Kit’s Coty Coeur de Cuvée 2016 was crowned best overall Sparkling Wine of the Year.

Hampshire’s Coates & Seely narrowly missed out on making it into the top 1o wineries of the year (it tabled in 12th place), however its Blanc de Noirs outshone all others in its category, singling it out as an expert in this style of winemaking.
