Kirin Brewery launches Southeast Asia headquarters

Japanese brewing giant Kirin has announced the establishment of a new company in Malaysia, tapping into growing demand in Southeast Asia.

Kirin Brewery launches Southeast Asia headquarters

Kirin Brewery Southeast Asia, the Japanese brewer’s new entity, will officially begin operations on Wednesday 1 October 2025.

Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the new headquarters have been established to strengthen Kirin’s business foundation and achieve sustainable growth in the Southeast Asian market, the company has said.

According to IWSR data, Southeast Asia’s alcoholic beverage market has been steadily growing over the last decade, driven by population growth and economic development.

Kirin said the new business “aims to meet diverse consumer needs, invigorate the market, and drive sustainable growth and competitiveness in this rapidly developing region”.

Until now, Kirin’s operations in the region have been managed through Kirin Holdings Singapore, a subsidiary of its Japan-based business. “However, to fully leverage the region’s growth potential, Kirin Brewery is establishing a local entity and transferring certain functions to the new company,” it said in a statement. “This will enable more agile decision-making and allow for faster, more responsive engagement with local consumer needs.”

Kirin plans to expand its product portfolio and launch new products via its Southeast Asian entity.

In August the Japanese brewer released its financial results for the six months ending 30 June 2025, showing a 3.7% increase in consolidated revenue to ¥1,136.3 billion and a 1.3% increase in normalised operating profit to ¥94.2 billion.

In May, Kirin CEO Yoshinori Isozaki said the group was expanding its business across Japan, Asia-Pacific and the United States, each of which account for about one third of the company’s earnings per share.

“In light of geopolitical risks, it is desirable to maintain this balance,” he said.
