Sonal Holland MW reveals her ‘Desert Island Drinks’

India’s first Master of Wine Sonal Holland reveals the wines and spirits that have moved her most – along with the one thing she can’t do without – as she features on db’s new Desert Island Drinks podcast.

Holland, who is an educator and consultant with a huge influence in her home country and beyond, was catapulted to international acclaim having gained the Master of Wine title in 2016.

As one of the first guests to feature on the Desert Island Drinks podcast, Holland recounts the eight drinks, book and luxury she would want to take with her if she were cast away to a desert island.

Among the drinks she has chosen, she also talks about her rebellious youth, the wine market in India, and the best places to grow grapes in her home country.

She also tells db about the enormous sacrifices she made to gain the MW title, and the inspiration behind her new book, called One in a Billion.

Currently, among her many commitments, Sonal heads up the Sonal Wine Academy, the Soho wine Club, and a wine consultancy business under the Soho brand too, as well as the India Wine Awards, and the India Wine Insider with Wine Intelligence.

She also has a wine retail business called Vine2Wine, and has recently launched The Holland House – a luxury hotel in Nashik – India’s leading wine region.

When not travelling the world, Sonal can be found in Mumbai with her husband, Andrew, and teenaged daughter, Rianna.
