Champagne Collery secures Glasgow listing

Distributor Republic Drinks has brought grand cru specialist Champagne Collery to Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Café.

In a milestone move for the house’s UK presence, Champagne Collery is now being served at The Kelvingrove Café. The venue, in Glasgow’s popular West End, has started serving the Champagne both by-the-glass and in its range of cocktails.

Republic Drinks, its exclusive UK distributor, masterminded the move. Founded just last year, the company has built a portfolio of wines, spirits and liqueurs and worked with prestigious names such as Fortnum & Mason, Bar Swift and Hawksmoor. According to co-director Charlie Graham, the distributor was established to bring quality products to the UK drinks scene.

“One of our main reasons for starting Republic Drinks,” he explains, “was to bring amazing products to the UK market, and to work with partners that share our ethos and strive to deliver quality.”

Champagne Collery has indeed repeatedly been recognised for its quality. The house routinely wins Gold and Master medals at the Champagne Masters, with Patricia Stefanowicz MW this year describing the Champagne Collery Brut Grand Cru NV as “a delicious non-vintage with a touch of oak.”

Kirstie Oates, brand director at The Kelvingrove Café agrees: “Collery is a cut above the rest. There’s really not much that this Champagne doesn’t deliver on. A rich Champagne which still maintains a fresh character.

“Kelvingrove Cafe is classic and consistent,” she continues. “Our drinks programme is no exception to this rule. Everything is a consideration for us at our venue. From glassware, to garnish: it’s always about the experience of the drink, and its atmosphere. Collery as a brand has made a perfect home with us – ultimately this is due to its verve and quality.”

Graham meanwhile, was pleased to see the listing as he has been a long-term fan of The Kelvingrove Café. “It’s a bar that I’ve always enjoyed visiting whenever I am in Glasgow,” he says, “and it has been at the forefront of their hospitality scene for years now.

“We are sure that they will be able to bring the brand to life, not only through serving the full range of cuvées, but also through their brilliant cocktails.”
