Metabev wins representation of Rémy Cointreau in Korea
Metabev Korea has secured a partnership with Rémy Cointreau to be the French business’s representative in Korea.
Rémy Cointreau is a French spirits group, the main business of which is the production of Cognacs, liqueurs and Champagne.
In 2023, Metabev Korea, a subsidiary of Metagroup, an importer and distributor with offices across major Asian cities, has been appointed to represent Rémy Cointreau in Korea. The company will be responsible for brands such as Remy Cointreau, the luxury Cognac Louis XIII, Mount Gay Rum, The Botanist Gin and the iconic Scotch brands Bruichladdich and Port Charlotte. The origins of Rémy Cointreau go back to 1724 France, and Metabev Korea called the portfolio an “extremely prestigious” one to represent.
Dookie Yeo, Metabev Korea CEO, confirmed the news and said: “We view the winning of the Rémy portfolio as a tremendous acknowledgement of our efforts to diversify the domestic liquor market and our commitment to introducing new brands to the market. We are the leading whisky importer in Korea and will continue to work to popularise a variety of whiskies and other spirits which have been hard to find in Korea.”
South Korea is a key market for drinks companies, as consumption continues to grow, According to Wine Intelligence, the number of wine drinkers in South Korea jumped from 10.2 million in 2017 to 12.6m in 2022.
To celebrate its successes this year, Metabev Korea has decided to produce the ‘New World Whisky Sampler Kit’ which has been created in the style of an airport duty free kit.
The new product aligns with the company’s pop-up experience which was held last December at the Hyundai Department Store in Seoul. The event was crowned ‘Drinks Event of the Year’ at the Drinks Business Asian Awards 2023, and travelled to Hong Kong in August following its debut last year.
