Drinking a beer through a ‘hot dog straw’ just became a reality

Food company Oscar Mayer has created a ‘hot dog straw’ that is designed to be used for sipping a cold beer.

The invention, which mimics a real Oscar Mayer hot dog, follows the viral hot dog straw video that became an internet sensation last year, generating more than 9 billion views on TikTok.

In honour of its one-year anniversary, Oscar Mayer has revealed that it is commemorating the moment by showing fans they don’t have to take food rules so seriously and nothing is more fun to drink beer with than a hot dog.

Using the Oscar Mayer wiener as its muse, the newly-released Oscar Mayer Hot Dog Straw mirrors the same size and colour of a cooked hot dog sausage and has, according to reports, been made using food safe soft silicone to replicate the feel of a real hot dog.

Oscar Mayer associate director Kelsey Rice said: “While the viral ‘Hot Dog Straw’ divided the internet, we salute the brave man who paved the way to enjoy his hot dog as he wishes.”

Rice explained: “Taking inspiration from a classic Oscar Mayer dog, the silicone Hot Dog Straw is designed for optimal sipping, and we hope it brings a friendly reminder that we don’t need to take enjoying a delicious hot dog seriously. Some things are just meant to be fun.”

Originally captured by “New York Nico,” the viral hot dog straw video saw 54% of people agree that beer is the ideal beverage to pair with a hot dog and providing them with an easy shortcut.

The Hot Dog Straw is available for pre-order nationwide while supplies last.
