Berry Bros buyers to bike to Champagne for MND charity

In September, a team of buyers from Berry Bros. & Rudd will cycle 325 miles from the merchant’s London home at No.3 St James’s Street to Epernay in Champagne to raise funds for Motor Neuron Disease (MND).

The team is being led by passionate cyclist and senior buyer for Champagne and Italy at Berry Bros. & Rudd, Davy Żyw, who was diagnosed with MND in 2018, along with Lizzy Rudd, chair of the wine and spirits merchant.

Over four days, the pair will take a 36-strong team of colleagues and friends from London to Epernay, with the aim to raise money for MND charity My Name’5 Doddie Foundation – and you can donate by visiting the campaign’s Just Giving page by clicking here.

The 325-mile ordeal will form part of a series of events to mark the 325th year since Berry Bros. & Rudd was founded, and hopes to raise £325,000 for the MND charity, with thanks to the generous support of sponsors – who include Champagnes Pol Roger, Bollinger, Mailly, and Leclerc Briant, along with wineries and drinks companies Giovanni Rosso, Edrington, Hotaling & Co, Charles Hofer SA, Pallini, Charton Hobbs, De Kuyper, JC Ribeiro and SilverGlass.

The foundation raises funds to find a cure for MND and offers support to those diagnosed with the disease, and to their friends and family.

Lizzy Rudd, said; “This is a cause very close to our hearts, as our friend and colleague Davy Żyw was diagnosed with MND in 2018. The team is excited (and nervous) to take on this challenge to raise funds for this charity doing such important work.”

Davy Żyw added, “There’s a huge amount of uncertainty when you get diagnosed, but the dialogue around MND has completely changed in the last five years. Challenges like this 325-mile bike ride are a way to support the invaluable work of charities that are raising awareness of the disease and working tirelessly to develop new treatments and a cure.”
