Coming in at number five, the piña colada cocktail — originating from Puerto Rico — has the power to transport you to a tropical beach somewhere. Made with rum, coconut and pineapple juice, the drink is popular in Germany, France and the UK, racking up a total of more than 2 million average online searches between the three countries each year.

Germany is also particularly fond of an Aperol Spritz, with 135,000 yearly searches on average for the classy cocktail.

Research was conducted by music venue and bar Amazing Grace London, delving into what type of cocktails people are searching for the most around Europe. Results were based on searches from 36 different European countries relating to 36 of the worlds favourite cocktails.

3. Margarita

In third place, the margarita is a cocktail consisting of tequila mixed with orange liqueur and lime or lemon juice, often served with salt on the glass rim. The margarita came out on top in Spain, where it was searched for 495,000 times a year on average.

Interestingly, Germany and France have a mutual love of mojitos, with both countries looking up the drink on average 110,000 times each year.

And in first place among the most popular cocktails in Europe according to Amazing Grace’s research was the Pornstar Martini.

The UK is a massive fan of pornstar Martinis, with the term being searched about 165,000 times on average every year.

Sammie Ellard-King, marketing director at Amazing Grace London, commented that cocktails accounted for nearly 20% of the bar’s total alcohol sales in 2022.

“Last year was a big year for cocktail sales,” he said.

“Beefeater Gin specifically was our best seller, with over 29,000 units sold alone in 2022. We’re noticing a lot more requests for bespoke cocktails over recent years too, for example last year we ran a Raspberry Mojito that went down really well.

The bar is hoping for a big Valentine’s Day period, particularly in light of money lost due to the rail strikes over the last few months.
