All the wines served at King Charles’ first State Banquet

King Charles hosted his first State Banquet as Monarch on Tuesday, in celebration of visiting South African president Cyril Ramaphosa. Here’s a list of all the wines served, including a £75 Taylor’s Vintage Port from 1983.

South African president Cyril Ramaphosa was welcomed to Buckingham Palace last night for the first State Banquet held for a world leader since 2019, when former US president Donald Trump was hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The three-course food menu started with grilled brill with wild mushrooms, truffles and sorrel sauce, followed by Windsor pheasant as the main course. For dessert, the royal household served iced vanilla parfait with caramelised apples.

One English sparkling wine was served at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday: Ridgeview’s Blanc de Blancs 2016.

Tamara Roberts, CEO of Ridgeview, described it as “wonderful to see our Blanc de Blancs 2016 being served at the first state banquet hosted by King Charles at Buckingham Palace”.

Roberts called it a “testament to the international appeal of English sparkling and the growth of the industry which is now held in global acclaim”.

Guests included the Queen Consort Camilla who is also the Patron of Wines GB, the Prince and Princess of Wales.

This is the fourth time Ridgeview’s sparkling wines have been served at a Royal State Banquets including in the past to USA President Obama.

Other wines served throughout the banquet included a £77 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle, a £55 Château Rieussec 1er Grand Cru Classé Sauternes 2007, a £75 Taylor’s Vintage Port 1983, plus a Château Feytit-Clinet Pomerol 2000.
