Footage shows moment cricket ball hit for six lands in beer

The moment Daryl Mitchell’s six dropped into an unlucky cricket fan’s beer on day one of the second Test between England and New Zealand at Trent Bridge in Nottingham was caught on camera.

A six hit by the New Zealand allrounder dropped right into the beer of a spectator sat a few rows into the long-on region.

The woman holding her pint had the shock of her life as the stroke from Daryl Mitchell sent her beer flying.

The incident took place in the 56th over of the innings bowled by left-arm spinner Jack Leach. Mitchell hit the flighted delivery for a six over the straight boundary, sending the ball straight into the spectator’s pint of beer.

Pacer Matty Potts was there to explain what happened, using hand gestures to explain where the ball ended up.

The umpires proceeded to dry the beer-soaked ball following the incident. As things turned worse for the England team, bowling coach Jon Lewis claimed that the incident made matters worse for his team, as it reduced the amount of swing on offer.

Daryl Mitchell followed his hundred in the previous Test with an unbeaten 81 in the visitors’ tally of 318/4 by the close of play.

The unfortunate fan was later identified as a woman called Susan. The New Zealand cricket team replaced her destroyed beer with a fresh pint.

Mitchell later met the woman and apologised in person for spilling her drink, making sure she had been given a new one.
