Brad Pitt claims Angelina Jolie ‘contributed nothing’ to Château Miraval

In the latest court filing in a multimillion dollar case of sour grapes, Pitt suggested that his ex-wife’s decision to sell the Provencal winery to an oligarch is “violating [his] contractual rights”.

For a time the marriage between the A-listers was portrayed as the most idyllic in Hollywood. Château Miraval was even the site where their 2014 wedding was hosted. Just two years late, Jolie filed for divorce. Though it was made official in 2019, the subsequent battles for custody of their six children and winery suggest that the war between the two is anything but over.

Oligarch Yuri Shefler, who owns Stoli Group, Tenute del Mondo and Amber Beverage Group, has been a key focus of the attacks from Pitt’s legal team.

People reports that Pitt’s lawyers argue that Shefler, acting through Tenute del Mondo, is “bent on taking control of Miraval”. The documents go on to accuse Shefler of “cutthroat business tactics and dubious professional associations”. They also argue that it would force Pitt into partnership with “a stranger with poisonous associations and intentions”.

The documents, filed at Los Angeles County Superior Court on 3 June, repeat the accusation that Jolie kept her ex-husband “in the dark”. Pitt is seeking damages from Jolie, for what his legal team deem to be multiple breaches of contract. He argues that the couple had agreed to never sell their interests in the winery.

Lawyers for Brad Pitt argued that he had built Miraval into a “multimillion-dollar international success story”, claiming Jolie had “contributed nothing”.

Pitt’s lawyers say that he was the driving force behind Miraval’s success. Jolie’s legal team’s response is yet to respond.
