Domaine Clarence Dillon buys Château Grand Pontet
The owners of Bordeaux First Growth Haut-Brion have expanded their vineyard holdings in the Right Bank, with the purchase of St-Emilion estate Château Grand Pontet.
According to an email sent to db by French wine writer Jean-Marc Quarin, Domaine Clarence Dillon will probably use their latest acquisition to expand production at their flagship St-Emilion label: Château Quintus.
Formerly known as Château Tertre Daugay, the property was rebranded as Quintus after its sale in 2011 to Domain Clarence Dillon.
The family-owned company agreed to purchase the 28-hectare St-Emilion estate for an undisclosed sum with Count Leo de Malet-Roquefort, the owner of Premier Grands Crus Classé B estate La Gaffeliere.

However, the newest member of Clarence Dillon’s portfolio is a 14 hectare Grand Cru Classé estate, run by Sylvie Pourquet.
Until 1980, it was owned by the Bordeaux merchant Barton & Guestier.
According to wine writer and Bordeaux expert Stephen Brook: “The terroir at Grand Pontet is truly exceptional. The location, in a single parcel, is excellent; its neighbours are the Beau-Sejours, Chateau Canon and Clos Fourtet.”
