Mystery ‘beast’ stuck in tree turns out to be a croissant

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a croissant, stuck in a tree…

A mysterious “beast” caused panic in Krakow after being spotted in a tree this week.

Inspectors from The Krakow Animal Welfare Society arrived on the scene after being called by a desperate sounding woman. She reported that residents were too afraid to open their windows with the limbless monster lingering nearby.

But inspectors soon found that the creature stuck in the tree – brown, unmoving, skin shining in the sun – was in fact a croissant.

The lady in question had described the croissant first as a “lagun” – Polish for lagoon – and then as a “legwan”, or iguana.

Although it was unlikely to be a reptile given the cool spring temperatures, the inspectors wondered whether it could have been an unwanted pet.

Finding the “beast” after searching through bushes and trees, the inspectors said: “We can’t help the creature, because it’s hard to help something that was previously baked.”

Keeping in good humour throughout its statement, the organisation confirmed that the incident was genuine and noted that it’s still always worth reporting any concerns about animal welfare.

This isn’t the first unidentified flying pastry reported this year. In January, an Indian restaurant in Bath launched a samosa into space prompting an international rescue mission after the pastry had crash landed in Caix in Northern France.

With the first two attempts ending in failure, it was on Niraj Gadher’s third try that he managed to successfully launch the samosa. Following an instagram-instigated search and rescue mission, the bundle was recovered by local photographer Axel Mathon.

Gadher, who runs the eatery, told Somerset Live: “I thought during these bleak times we could all use a reason to laugh.”
