Watch: Krug Champagne set to music

Watch loop artist Michael Sebastian set Champagne Krug to music at The Gibson Guitar Studio in London this week.

To mark the launch of Krug’s 2006 vintage in the UK on Monday, the Champagne house asked the musician Michael Sebastian to come with a composition to reflect the character of the single-harvest fizz, with the brief ‘Capricious Indulgence’ – which was the description Krug used to encapsulate the nature of this particular expression.

But the house also asked Sebastian to compose an additional piece of music to reflect the nature of its Krug Grand Cuvée, which is released each year, but comprises a blend of wine spanning 10 different harvests.

For the latter, Sebastian pre-recorded a set of Champagne-related sounds to his drum set, including the popping of a cork, a clink of glasses, the fizz of the drink, and the noise of it being poured.

Each year Krug invites selected musicians to an extended tasting of its Champagnes so they can select or create a special playlist to reflect what they felt.

For the last vintage release of Krug, which hailed from the 2004 harvest, the house selected British singer and songwriter Lianne La Havas.
