Global Masters Wine of the Week: Champagne Henriot Brut Souverain

Every week, we select a wine that picked up either a Gold or Master from our competition series, and tell you why the judges loved it. Enter the Global Masters, and this could be your wine.

It may not be as well-known as Moët, or as brightly-packaged as Veuve Clicquot, but Champagne Henriot deserves a place in the ice-bucket for its distinctive style, its quality, and its value for money.

Although it comprises a blend of the classic grapes of Champagne, it is dominated by Chardonnay, and consequently has a delicious dollop of lemon and peach fruit flavours, and a toasty, even slightly smoky character, reminiscent of fine white Burgundy.

And, with a fairly low dosage of less than 8g/l, it is a refreshing style of fizz, that is ideally suited for the classic Champagne moment – the aperitif.

So, the next time you are wondering what Champagne to serve your guests, don’t forget this Gold-medal-winning Brut from Henriot.
