Fine wine dips again in September

The Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 recoiled slightly in September after several months of small gains.

The index is currently running flat after drifting in the first quarter before a small rally from June to August.

Italian and Bordeaux labels were the lead performers while a motley collection of Burgundian, Champagne and Rhône labels were the worst.

Sassicaia’s 2015 led the month’s best-performers with a 5.2% rise, closely followed by Pavie’s 2010, up 5.1%.

Domaine Leflaive’s 2015 Puligny-Montrachet Clavoillon declined 7.7% in price and the 2015 vintages of Domaine Leroy’s Vosne-Romanée Beaumonts and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s Romanée-Conti, dipped 5.9% and 4.6% respectively.

It’s been a nervy, listless year for the fine wine secondary market so far and the current trade crisis between the EU and US is unlikely to help matters as the winter approaches.
