Sake Walk is coming to Hong Kong

One of Hong Kong’s largest sake events will showcase a selection of more than 80 sakes from 14 breweries later this month.

Sake Walk 2019 is going to be staged in House 1881 from 19 to 21 September. The three-day event includes a sake pairing dinner, sake and food booths as well as sake masterclasses. Curious tipplers to sake connoisseurs, they will be offered with the opportunity to explore more about the scene.

The event commences with an exclusive sake pairing dinner on 19 September at House 1881’s historic Café Parlour. Five different dishes will be paired with eight varieties of premium sake from different prefectures across Japan.

The menu includes Duck Liver Terrine, Drunken Abalone, Alaskan Crab and Slow-Cooked Wagyu. Brewery representatives will lead the tasting dinner and share their brewing philosophies.

The tasting session is open to the public from 12:00-22:00 on 21 September. It will showcase a selection of 80 sakes from 14 breweries across Japan. The range includes: Juyondai, the highly coveted world-famous sake brand; Kikusaki, a sake from the Kyoto-based Toji temple; Senkin, a sake known for its high acidity and vintage variations; and Zankyo, a premium 350-hour yearly-brewed sake. Alongside the tasting, guests can also purchase sake, cocktails, glassware and other gifts.

Entry costs HK$100 and includes a sake glass. HK$280 tickets are also available and include 10 tasting tokens, entry to the event, and the sake glass. Admission for children under 12 is free.

The event is also going to host a series of masterclasses to deepen drinkers’ knowledge on sake. Masterclasses comprise a 60-minute talk followed by a guided tasting of four sake varieties. Tickets are priced at HK$140 inclusive of four sake varieties, entry to the event, and a sake glass to take home.
