Cork maker MA Silva USA launches oxygen management tool for winemakers

Cork, glass and packaging manufacturer MA Silva USA has expanded its services to the wine industry by launching a new piece of technology which helps to monitor oxygen and CO2 levels in winemaking.

The Oxi_Out selectively removes up to 97% dissolved oxygen while leaving other organic characteristics untouched, according to the firm.

It also protects bottled wine against premature ageing, as well as enabling winemakers to bottle wine with lower SO2 levels.

As well as taking out unwanted oxygen from the process, Oxi_Out manages carbon dioxide levels in order to lift aromatics in white and rose wines, or to decrease astringency and bitterness components in reds.

The product is manufactured by Agrovin USA, and is exclusively distributed by M. A. Silva USA in the North American market.

“We are very excited about expanding our services to the wine industry,” says Neil Foster, President at MA Silva. “With this comprehensive gas management instrument we keep innovating and are able to address the challenges winemakers face when seeking ways to optimise winemaking, bottling and wine preservation.”

The oxygen removal, which can be performed by either a nitrogen or carbon dioxide current, by vacuum, or a combination of both, has a capacity to process up to 13,200 gallons of gas per hour.
