California-born Debra Meiburg MW and California Wine Institute (CWI) hosted a media panel discussion on Californian wines’ diversity and latest market trends. Other guest speakers included fellow Californian wine enthusiasts Yvonne Cheung, wine director of Swire Hotels, Sabrina Hosford of Cru World Wine, Victoria Chow of The Woods, Christopher Beros, Asia Director of CWI.

A Californian wine trade tasting was hosted at MMW Wine School for Hong Kong’s wine professionals to sample a range of wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from California.

Japan’s revered Takagi Brewery has unveiled its Juyondai ‘Black Label’ in Hong Kong, a collaboration between the Japanese saké brewery and former Japanese football star Hidetoshi Nakata. The saké, made with special A grade Yamada Nishiki rice (koji rice) and special A grade Aiyama rice (kakemai rice), retails for around HK$8,000 (US$1,023) a bottle. The saké is available at Jeben Fine Wines.

Hong Kong importer Wine High Club hosted its annual portfolio tasting at Cantonese restaurant Cuisine Cuisine at Mira Hotel to showcase its range of wines.

Clemens Busch, owner and winemaker of his eponymous biodynamic winery in Mosel, Germany, was at a media wine lunch hosted by its importer Wine High Club at Cuisine Cuisine. The winery is a member of the Austria-based respekt-BIODYN, an association of biodynamic wineries from Austria and Germany.
