Acker toasts a ‘strong Asia market’

Top Burgundy and Bordeaux reigned at Acker, Merrall & Condit’s latest Asia auction which realised nearly HK$30 million.

The sale also marked the debut of Singapore which joined Beijing, Shanghai and Tokyo at Acker’s simulcast auction which was held in Hong Kong last Saturday.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti remained strong with the top three lots comprising a Methusaleh of 2005 Montrachet which sold for HK$370,500 (US$47,806), 12 bottles of 1995 Romanée-Conti for HK$370,500 (US$47,806) and three bottles of 2004 Romanée-Conti for HK$247,000 (US$31,870).

Elsewhere, the iconic vintages of 1982 Lafite, 1982 Petrus and 1945 Mouton made up the top 25 lots – a sign that Bordeaux was still firmly leading the trend, said Acker’s Chairman, John Kapon.

“While Burgundy continued to grab the majority, Bordeaux reminded all that it is still a force with which to be reckoned, especially in the Asian markets,” he said.

“Asian collectors are still hitting on all cylinders.  No one is touching more collectors face to face in more cities than Acker Merrall. As our footprint in Asia increases, so do our friends.  The welcome we are receiving everywhere is invigorating, including our home away from home – Hong Kong.”

Acker’s next auction will be held in New York on 9 April, while its next Hong Kong auction will be on 4 June.
