Somecards enters wine trade with humorous range

Online greeting card company Somecards has entered the wine trade, teaming up with 1026 Beverage Co to launch three Californian wines in the US under its newly-founded SomeWine label.

The range, which comprises a 2013 Californian Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and red blend, features labels that carry the brand’s trademark humour, which has helped it to become one of the most viral brands in the US. Its Chardonnay label for example reads: “This Chardonnay pairs perfectly with your kids being asleep”, while its red blend label reads: “This wine goes great with more of this wine”.

Attracting more than 97 million consumer interactions via social media each month, 1026 Beverage Co. has said the Somecards brand appeals to “millennials as much as it does their moms”.

Announcing its launch this month, SomeWine described its wines as an “extremely unembarrassing choice” to bring to social engagements. “Nothing says “I brought some wine” like showing up with a bottle of SomeWine”, it said. “Whether you’re heading to a party, staying in with friends, or unwinding after a long day of pretending to do your job”.

Its Chardonnay is described as “lightly oaked and fresh with apples, citrus, vanilla, and a touch of honey”, while the Pinot Noir is “big, flavorful and bright, with notes of fresh berries, cinnamon, clove, black pepper, and vanilla”.

The range is available via the SomeWine website, in HEB Stores in Texas, and throughout more than 30 US states with an RRP of $12.99. At least 1% of revenue generated from sales will be donated to environmental charity For the Planet.
