Copestick to distribute Sir Hegarty wines

Copestick Murray has signed a distribution deal with Hegarty Chamans – the Minervois-based winery co-owned by advertising mogul Sir John Hegarty.

The deal came about following a “fortuitous meeting” between Sir John Hegarty and Robin Copestick at the WSTA Annual Conference in London in September.

At the conference Sir John outlined his belief that the wine industry was “peculiar, fragmented, confusing and impenetrable”, had done little to further its growth and lacks innovation.

“The moment I heard Sir John speaking at the WSTA conference I knew that this was a person with whom I would love to work”, said Robin Copestick.

“Then I tasted the superb quality of his wines and listened to his ideas to create exciting and innovative French wines and I was certain that this was a perfect fit for Copestick Murray. The wines are on the way to us as we speak and we have a number of great new ideas to present to all of our customers.”

Sir John Hegarty co-founded the advertising agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty, and is the co-owner of a vineyard in the Languedoc where he produces biodynamic and organic wines under the name Hegarty Chamans.

The partnership will see Hegarty Chamans’ current range distributed to the UK and Ireland on-trade, independent stores, mail order companies and wine specialists.

As part of the deal, Sir John Hegarty will work with the Copestick Murray design and marketing team to create “exciting and innovative” Languedoc wines aimed at putting some “energy and excitement” into the French wine category.

Of the partnership Sir John Hegarty said: “Working with a dynamic, entrepreneurial company has always been the ambition of Hegarty Chamans. That’s why we’re excited to be working with Robin and his team. I’ve always believed wine needs less mystery and more magic. I know we’ll get that from Copestick Murray.”
