Luxury lots unveiled for Cape auction

A catalogue for the charitable AfrAsia Bank Cape Wine Auction 2015 has been released, featuring “money can’t buy” lots of rare wines, private dining experiences and luxury holidays.

Having raised over R7 million for charity with their inaugural 2014 event, organisers are hoping that the weak Rand will attract strong bidding from international buyers to support education initiatives in the Cape Winelands.

Online bids open on 15 January, with the main event itself taking place at Boschendal Estate on 14 February. There will also be an invitation-only barrel tasting and preview evening on 13 February.

The catalogue features 34 lots donated by many of the Cape’s top wine estates. Highlights include a three-night stay, flights, private dinner, tasting and spa treatment at Sir Richard Branson’s Mont Rochelle hotel in Franschhoek, or a two-night stay at Delaire Graff, complete with helicopter transfer, specially commissioned artwork, dinner, tasting, spa treatments and magnum gift collection.

Other lots feature bespoke polo experiences, a never-before released collection of wines from the Swartland Revolution pioneers, a party for 100 people at Warwick Estate, luxury trips to the Loire Valley and Seychelles, and a number of rare vertical collections from some of the Cape’s most respected producers.

Among the charities supported by the auction are The Cape Winemakers Guild Protégé Programme, which supports trainee winemakers; the Pebbles Project, which provides support and training for children from disadvantaged backgrounds; and The Maranatha Trust, which was set up by winemaker Eben Sadie and his sister Delana to provide education in the Swartland region.
