BrewDog launches ‘hop-corn’ pairings

BrewDog has teamed up with gourmet popcorn makers Joe & Seph’s to create a range of bespoke craft beer and flavoured-popcorn pairings.

All five of the Scottish brewer’s headline beers have been paired with a specially created flavoured popcorn with pairings including its Punk IPA with Joe & Seph’s madras curry with lime and black onion seeds popcorn, Five AM Red Ale with caramel, pepper and chilli popcorn, This.Is.Lager. with cheddar cheese and smoked paprika popcorn, Brixton Porter with smooth caramel and espresso popcorn and finally the brewer’s Dead Pony Pale Ale with goat’s cheese and black pepper popcorn

Cleverly dubbed “Hop-Corn”, the five unique pairings will be served in all UK BrewDog bars with bags of popcorn priced at £2.25.

James Watt, BrewDog co-founder, said: “Our mission is to make other people as passionate about craft beer as we are, by pushing the boundaries of what beer can be and constantly experimenting with flavour. This collaboration is a natural next step in our quest to elevate beer’s cultural profile, showcase its versatility and promote its ability to complement a wide range of food, whether it be beef jerky, burgers or…popcorn. In Joe & Seph’s, we have found a partner that takes its craft as seriously as we do, and is just as willing to upend the status quo in its industry. Food and beer pairing is still a relatively new concept to many people, but we hope folks will leave our bars with their palates educated and their minds opened.”

Earlier this year Joe & Seph’s released a range of alcohol cocktail popcorn with an abv of 5% featuring flavours based on a gin & tonic, mojito, margarita and cosmopolitan cocktails.

The flavoured-popcorn trend has also spread to the world of Sherry with Tio Pepe launching its festive fino and popcorn matching menu at its UK bars featuring popcorn flavours of pigs in blankets, roast turkey with stuffing and blue cheese.
