Canti bar to cash in with non-alc wine

The new Canti Prosecco Bar at Harrods is looking to cash in on the store’s hoards of wealthy Arab visitors.

The most expensive bottle on the menu is the non-alcoholic Canti Juice, made from Moscato grapes and priced at £50 per bottle. A Canti spokesperson confirmed to the drinks business that the drink is designed to appeal to the department store’s Arab and Middle Eastern customers.

Indeed, the drink is £15 more expensive than the most pricey alcoholic drink on the menu – Prosecco DOC Spumante extra dry at £35.

Canti spokesman Richard McKeown told db: “There are a lot of very rich visitors to this store who do not drink alcohol for religious or cultural reasons, such as Arabs and others from the Middle East, and it would be foolish not to provide them with a non-alcoholic offering.

“They like to impress their friends and family nevertheless, and this non-alcoholic wine gives them the opportunity to enjoy the enjoy the Prosecco bar experience for themselves.”

The new bar, located on the second floor of the world-famous store, also features a food menu designed by Michelin-starred chef Massimo Camia.

“I embraced the Canti project right from the outset,” said Camia. “It managed to bring together a careful selection of the best wines of our tradition, both national and regional.

“The recipes on the menu draw on a style to which I have always been loyal: rich, tasty, fragrant Piedmont cuisine, made with basic ingredients of outstanding quality.

“For each of these recipes, of course, I will recommend a Canti wine that will bring out their spirit.”

Gianni Martini, president of Fratelli Martini, said: “Bringing a slice of Italy to Harrods is a great thrill for me.

“England is the country where I first introduced Canti and where it was first appreciated, helping me to make it grow, both in quality and renown.”

The bar offers a range of sparkling and still wines, including an Estate Wines selection exclusive to Harrods.
