Taylor Walker resurrected

Punch Taverns has revealed plans to breathe life back into Taylor Walker, one of the UK’s most iconic brewing and pub brands.

Punch is looking to badge more than a hundred of its London-based managed pubs with the Taylor Walker name. These include The Anchor at Bankside, The Audley in Mayfair and the Punch & Judy in Covent Garden.

It is thought that the Taylor Walker brand will champion traditional pub values and cask ale in a similar bent to the Nicholson’s retail brand owned by Mitchell & Butler’s.

Dating back to 1730 and once boasting more than 600 pubs, Taylor Walker was one of several breweries acquired by Ind Coope and incorporated into Allied Breweries in the early 1960s. The Barley Mow Brewery in East London was demolished soon after.
