The priciest-ever Pinotage
The second tranche of the most expensive Pinotage ever will be available through online retailers Cybercellar and Wade Bales Wine Society this month.
Costing SAR1,000 (£83 a bottle), Kanonkop’s Black Label Pinotage 2006 has already sold 60% of its stock, with the remaining 40% becoming available later in the month.
The price per bottle puts it among some of the most expensive South African wines ever to be released, one of which is a wine from Stellenbosch producer Rust en Vrede, which costs approximately SAR1,200 (£100) a bottle.
After Kanonkop’s wine, the next most expensive bottle of Pinotage is believed to be the Ashbourne cuvée from Hamilton Russell Vineyards, which retails in its domestic market for SAR424 (£36) a bottle.
The Kanonkop Black Label Pinotage is made from fruit from 57-year-old vines and the cuvée’s 2007 vintage, which will be available from September, should cost SAR190 (£16) a bottle.
