Bonhams breaks own record
Bonhams has made almost £475,000 from its most successful sale of fine wine. A record-breaking £3,410 was paid for a case of Château Lafitte 1996, probably a knock-on effect from the sky-high prices of the 2005 vintage from Bordeaux.
Other 1996 First Growths also beat their forecast prices. Châteaux Latour and Margaux went for £2,860, while Château Mouton commanded £1,430 per case, and Cheval Blanc and Haut-Brion went for £1,320 per case.
Older vintages were also much in demand, particularly 1949 – a dozen bottles of Lafleur, bottled in Belgium, sold for £10,500 and three bottles of Latour and three of Yquem made £1,760 each.

A dozen bottles of Dom Pérignon 1964, in their original case, made £4,180 exceeding estimates of £2,400-£2,800, while two bottles of Louis Roederer Cristal went for over £1000.
