MadFish celebrates introducing 750,000 Brits to Western Australian wine

Western Australian wine sales in the UK have seen a twenty-five-fold increase in the past three years, according to MadFish Wines.

The Western Australian wine business can be credited with more than 80% of this growth, according to data from Nielsen’s EPOS total off-trade report on the 52 weeks ending 6 May 2023.

To bolster this, MadFish Sauvignon Blush is now the latest addition to the range available in the UK and is set to boost sales further.

The data from Nielsen also revealed that MadFish Sauvignon Blanc is the second-largest premium Sauvignon Blanc from Australia, whilst its Shiraz is the second-largest selling premium shiraz from anywhere in the world.

According to the company, its MadFish Sauvignon Blush “harnesses the popularity of Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé wines” and the blend, made from “predominantly Sauvignon Blanc” and has a highly aromatic flavour and includes the addition of Merlot, which “lends the wine its subtle hue”. Aligning with the new launch, MadFish has also refreshed its packaging to include the phrase ‘Wild, Coastal, Pure’ – highlighting Western Australia’s topography.

MadFish was born from winemaker Jeff Burch’s love of the wild South West Australian coastline, with the quirky name deriving from MadFish Bay, where two opposing tides collide, causing schools of fish to jump from the water.

Speaking about the wines, Burch explained: “Although the landscape here is rugged and dramatic, the wines that are born from it are surprisingly smooth and refined, yet still possess the beautiful liveliness of the region. Our new Sauvignon Blush is a fresh taste of Margaret River and the perfect wine to complement a summer afternoon, an alfresco lunch or a beach BBQ. We can’t wait to share it with our UK friends.”

MadFish Sauvignon Blush is available to buy nationwide in Tesco from £9.50 per bottle.
