Anspach & Hobday to host its annual ‘Christmas Carols’ celebration

Anspach & Hobday is celebrating the festive season by hosting its annual ‘Christmas Carols’ celebration at its brewery tap room in Bermondsey.

The event will also see the independent South London-based craft brewery’s annual Christmas beer, The Pfeffernüsse Stout, being served as well as mark the launch of a new, festive-spiced pale ale named A Christmas Pale.

The ‘Christmas Carols’ celebration is due to take place at the brewery’s site The Arch House on Druid Street in London’s Bermondsey on Friday 1 December from 3pm and will include songs from 7pm.

At the event, attendees will be able to sample the annual Christmas brews along with mince pies, festive cheer and a selection of kegs from deep within the Anspach & Hobday archives.

Speaking to the drinks business, Anspach & Hobday co-founder Paul Anspach admitted that the Christmas Carols celebration was his “favourite event” and explained that “it’s a great opportunity to showcase our Christmas beers, and fill the brewery with festive cheer. The singers in the choir are always exceptional and the atmosphere they bring to the arch is really quite special”.

He revealed that this year Anspach & Hobday will be launching “a new, festive spiced pale ale named ‘A Christmas Pale’, which is delicately spiced with ginger, orange peel and juniper” and pointed out that “at 4.5% ABV, it’s a lovely alternative to the bigger, bolder Christmas beers that you typically see”.

Anspach also said that the brewery would be pouring its “Christmas classic, The Pfeffernüsse Stout, a 6% ABV stout inspired by the German Christmas biscuit of the same name”.

In addition, Anspach told db that this year it would be “collecting donations in aid of Music Masters, a musical education charity that works with schools and art organisations with the aim of making music accessible to all”.

Anspach & Hobday has held its annual Christmas Carols since the beginning of the brewery in 2014, making this the ninth event held at the brewery. The brewery has also worked with Matt The List who will be keeping an eye out for talent and also leading the choir and crowd verse by verse.
