Fierce Beer secures funding for expansion and green initiatives

Aberdeen brewery Fierce Beer has secured a six-figure funding package to assist in its UK expansion plans.

The funding, which it gained from HSBC Bank, will – along with crowdfunding support it has already secured – give Fierce Beer the chance to boost capacity and distribution as well as buy new brewing equipment and make the business more connected to its customer base and eco aspirations.

Speaking to the drinks business, Fierce Beer founder and managing director Dave Grant said: “Both the funding from HSBC UK and the crowdfunding will assist with our green initiatives. The crowdfunder allowed us to get moving with some of these projects more quickly. Crowdfunding also allowed us to involve our customers, ensuring they were part of the process while getting a ‘pay it forward’ deal.”

Fierce has described the funding as a crucial way to speed up the process of meeting its eco-goals and making the brewery as environmentally-conscientious as possible for the future.

Grant told db: “It is incredibly important to us that we get started with our green initiative projects as quickly as we can to ensure that we are more efficient and produce less CO2. Using both the HSBC UK funding as well as the crowdfunder ‘top-up’ will enable us to do this.”

The new equipment will also allow the brewer to become more efficient, creating larger volumes of beer at a quicker pace, meaning that it can expand its reach to major supermarkets across Britain. The funding will also assist with the launch of new beers that are due to be released this year, introducing more people to the Fierce brand.

Fierce Beer, which was founded in 2016, has already expanded its presence significantly since opening and is trading in 15 countries across Europe, Canada, and the Far East, while also establishing popular bars in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Manchester.
