Elland Brewery faces closure

Elland Brewery, based in Yorkshire, which saw its 1872 Porter awarded the Champion Beer of Britain five times, is facing liquidation.

According to a recent filing, a virtual meeting of the creditors of Elland Brewery is being proposed by the directors of the company, db has learned.

The virtual meeting will be held via Zoom, on 16 February at 11.15am and a meeting of shareholders has been called and will be held prior to the virtual meeting of creditors, to consider passing a resolution for voluntary winding up of the company.

Elland Brewery’s beers are steeped in history with the recipe for its 1872 Porter dating back more than 150 years. Founded as ‘Eastwood and Sanders Fine Ales’ in 2002, after the amalgamation of The West Yorkshire Brewery and The Barge and Barrel Brewing Company, the business was renamed Elland Brewery in 2006 and had been trading under that banner ever since.

The brewery had stated pride over the years over how it’s ales that had “stood the test of time” and had become “established locally and in the wider region” with its multi-award winning 1872 Porter being “a mainstay at hundreds of beer festivals all over the country”.

Any creditor looking to retrieve funds owed is entitled to attend and vote at the virtual meeting and creditors are also urged to get in contact with Simon Weir, DSi Business Recovery based in Wakefield who is handling the situation. Resolutions considered at the meeting will include the appointment of a liquidator, according to the filing.
