Alliance Wine to run Edinburgh Marathon for The Drinks Trust

A team from fine wine supplier Alliance Wine will run the Edinburgh marathon in May, with sponsorship going towards The Drinks Trust to support struggling hospitality staff.

Members of Alliance Wine will lace up their shoes this May to run the Edinburgh Marathon for The Drinks Trust.

Having formerly partnered with the organisation, which raises funds to provide care for drinks hospitality staff, at the beginning of 2023, Alliance will donate all sponsorship raised towards the cause.

“We have quite a few committed runners at Alliance and we’ve had a really positive response to the idea of running a marathon. Given our Scottish roots, the Edinburgh Marathon this May seemed very appropriate. Being sponsored to do it helps The Drinks Trust in its work, which is increasingly vital in the current climate” said Fergal Tynan, CEO of Alliance Wine.

“With all the pressures that we are seeing, the support The Drinks Trust provides, not only financially, but also for mental health and training, is to be applauded. We should all try to support the charity as much as we can. This is why we are starting to undertake activities to help them raise funds.”

Alliance Wine’s runners come from a variety of backgrounds and levels of experience.

“I am no runner, but have decided to break the habit of a lifetime and sign up to do the half-marathon,” said Ned Llewellyn, off-trade sales director for Alliance.

The team is currently training hard and is committed to completing the Marathon, or half-Marathon.

“Any support people can offer would be very gratefully received, as the sponsorship will help the runners reach their goals and contribute to making a difference for those in the industry in need,” said Tynan.

The Edinburgh Marathon takes place on 28 May and is a 26.2 mile race through the city’s old town and along the coast.
