Concha y Toro releases fine wine sets in China

South American wine giant Concha y Toro has launched a limited edition fine wine collector’s set in China, featuring a bottle each of its three flagship wines.

Comrpsing three of Concha y Toro’s top flagship labels – Almaviva, Don Melchor and Carmin de Peumo –  it is the company’s first high-end wine collector set and the wines are from the highly acclaimed 2017 vintage.

The package is limited to only 600 sets worldwide.

Almaviva is Concha’s flagship wine, a project founded in 1997 as a partnership between Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild and Concha y Toro.

It has been one of the most awarded wineries in Chile since its first vintage. The blend, comprising Cabernet Sauvignon, Camenere and Cabernet Franc, is made from the single estate of 60-hectares located in Puente Alto in Maipo Valley.

Almaviva’s 2017 vintage was recently named ‘Wine of the Decade’ by James Suckling, who gave a perfect score to the wine which he also described as having: “the aromas of blackberry leaves and iodine… with mussel shells and earth underneath. Full-bodied, tight and chewy with powerful tannins that show muscle. It’s structured and powerful. Dense and very, very deep.”

Don Melchor is one of the most historical wineries in Chile first launched in 1987. It represents a singular expression of the Puente Alto Vineyard in the upper Maipo Valley. The release of 2017 vintage marks the 30th Anniversary vintage of Don Melchor. The Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend, “is highly aromatic and full of flavour including red berries with fine and delicate tannins, in addition to good density and a long-lasting finish.”

As Chile’s first iconic Carmenere, Carmin de Peumo is a wine that reflects the terroir of Peumo. For its 2017 vintage, the winery’s tasting notes describe it as: “Mouth-filling, with ripe underlying tannins, deep, concentrated, with a long aftertaste and distinctive hints of Peumo’s Terroir, Graphite loam and mineral nuances. It drinks by self like a modern Bordeaux assemblage.”

The collector set presents the fine range of Bordeaux-style blends from Concha Y Toro, once again reinforcing the goal of the company to develop the high-end market in China.

Concha y Toro started importing to China since 20 years ago and in 2019, began its own in-house importing business there, with a focus on expanding the high-end market in the country. In June 2020, the company announced the set up of flagship shops on Tmall and JD.com, the two major Chinese e-commerce channels.
