Deliveroo is selling CBD drinks on demand

Deliveroo is set to offer ‘CBD drinks on demand’, after partnering with one of the first soft drinks to launch in the UK that contains the cannabidiol, the non-psychoactive element of cannabis.

The on-demand delivery service has teamed up with The Botanic Lab to offer, among others, the brand’s sour cherry and floral hibiscus Dutch Courage soft drink, which contains 5mg of full spectrum CBD per 250ml serving from hemp, direct to consumers.

The brand, which launched last year and taps into the wellness market, already sells its ‘sophisticated’ botanical soft drinks that contain fruit, herbs and spices in Sourced market, Planet Organic, Harrods, Coop and Waitrose. Other drinks in the range includes Latin Lover (Yerba Maté) and Yin Yang Yuzu (Green Tea).

Botanic Lab founder & CEO Rebekah Hall said the innovative and ground-breaking drink incorporated one of the most talked about and culturally significant ingredients of all time.

“Today Deliveroo will innovate in the market once again creating the first CBD On Demand service, delivering our industry shaping drink to the consumer in under 45 minutes. You know you need it, now you can get it, straight to your door,” she said.

Tom Peters, director of health at Deliveroo said innovation was at the core of the delivery service.

“We are constantly looking for ways of bringing new, exciting and healthier brands in the food and drink industry to our customers. We’re excited to partner with the pioneering team at Botanic Lab and launch a ‘CBD On Demand’ service,” he said.

Speaking to db recently, Euromonitor’s Spiros Malandrakis said he was excited about the potential about cannabis infused drinks – particularly soft drinks that had adult positioning and gave greater flexibility for different social occasions.

The last 12 months has seen a number of international companies investigate the potential of CBD-infused drinks from Constellation brands to Molson Coors. The US market has been tipped to top the US$1 billion mark within four years, according to a report out in February. Some of the products containing CBD include UK-based wellness company OTO’s “high strength” non-alcoholic cocktail bitters infused with cannabidiol (CBD) that launched last month, a hemp-flavoured rum from Cornish spiced rum brand Dead Man’s Fingers, a gin and a rum infused with CBD from craft spirit start-up Top Beverages and cannabis-flavoured vodka brand, Weedka.
