Fever-Tree and Patrón release tonic water for Tequila

Mixer brand Fever-Tree and Tequila brand Patrón have teamed up to release a citrus tonic water flavoured with Mexican limes, tangerines and bitter orange, which has been specifically designed to pair with Tequila.

Co-founder Tim Warrillow sourced key limes and Tahitian limes from Colima and Michoacán, tangerines from Vera Cruz and bitter orange from Yucatán.

The tonic brand said that its goal was “to create a balance for the sweet and peppery notes” of Patrón’s Tequila. The tonic water will be available in selected bars in the UK from today (12 September) including London’s Dandelyan, Quo Vadis and Sketch as well as Hedonist in Leeds and HMSS Bristol and the The Edgbaston in Birmingham.

The tonic water will also be available in a selection of specialist retailers as well as online via 31Dover.com.

It is currently being sold as part of a deal which includes a 5cl bottle of Patrón Silver Tequila with two bottles of 200ml citrus tonic for £7.99, or a 70cl bottle of Patrón Silver Tequila  with 24 bottles of 200ml citrus tonic for £59.99.

Fever-Tree’s Mediterranean tonic water, which is now part of its core range, was likewise originally developed in partnership with Belvedere in order to create a tonic water to be paired with vodka.

Fever-Tree co-founder Tim Warrillow commented: “This is an incredibly exciting collaboration. Consumers are increasingly searching for both authenticity and taste.

“Provenance and using the highest quality ingredients is integral to both Fever-Tree and Patron and that is why, in developing our Citrus Tonic, we travelled across Mexico to discover the passionate producers growing the finest citrus fruits enabling us to create a mixer to perfectly complement Patrón Tequila”.

Lee Applbaum, global CMO of Patrón, added: “It’s the perfect pairing between two pioneering brands. Together we are recruiting new customers and changing preconceptions. It showcases the versatility of Patrón and mixability of Fever-Tree Tonic.”

“It’s made to pair with more than just gin – of course, Fever-Tree has been showing this side for a while now – our premium mixers are enjoyed with a wide range of spirits – but this bespoke collaboration is something brand new. Tequila and tonic is the new, refreshing long, tequila serve”.
