St. John to open permanent bakery in Neal’s Yard

Following two successful pop-ups, nose-to-tail restaurant St. John is to open a permanent bakery in Neal’s Yard in London’s Covent Garden next month.

St. John’s famous vanilla custard doughnuts will be served at the bakery

As reported by Eater, St. John’s founders, Fergus Henderson and Trevor Gulliver, decided to go permanent with their bakery concept after two successful pop-ups at Old Street roundabout and on Bermondsey Street.

The St. John Bakery will join cheesemonger Neal’s Yard Dairy, French wine bar Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels, caffeine Mecca Monmouth Coffee, and tiny bakery Jacob The Angel run by the founders of The Palomar in Neal’s Yard.

The bakery will serve St. John’s popular salted caramel, strawberry jam and vanilla custard doughnuts, alongside sourdough, brownies and eccles cakes, which will be available to take away, while wine will be served once an alcohol license is approved.

“We were delighted to discover such demand through the pop-ups, which set us off on the trail of a permanent bakery shop,” co-founder Trevor Gulliver told Eater.

“When Neal’s Yard was suggested we immediately knew that it would be the perfect spot, surrounded as it is by like-minded folk,” he added.

A second permanent bakery is in the pipeline for later in the year.
