Lidl launch rhubarb and ginger gin liqueur for Christmas

German discount retailer Lidl has launched two new gin-based liqueurs in the run-up to Christmas.

Lidl is bolstering its drinks range in the run-up to Christmas.

The new products — a Scottish raspberry liqueur and a rhubarb and ginger-flavoured spirit — join Lidl’s existing Hortus gin range, which includes the seasonal Hortus Sloe Gin, Hortus Oriental Spiced Gin and Hortus Original London Dry Gin.

The liqueurs, which retail at £11.99, are available at all Lidl stores nationwide.

Lidl’s spirits consultant and author of The Curious Bartender, Tristan Stephenson, said that both liquers can be enjoyed on their own, but added that the raspberry liqueur works best “as a Spritz with Champagne,” while the rhubarb and ginger-flavoured version “goes brilliantly with an earthy ginger beer, replacing your usual tonic mixer.”

The new launch comes as Lidl bolsters its drinks rage ahead of the festive season. Last month, the grocer introduced an own-label Prosecco it claims is “hangover-free.”

Paul Gibson, buying director for Lidl UK said: “With the introduction of our innovative gin liqueurs, Lidl is enabling customers to explore a whole new area of gin they may not have experienced before – one that goes beyond the standard gin and tonic.

“These unbeatable prices for high-quality spirits is testament to Lidl continuing to deliver excellent value to our customers.”
