Wine Car Boot fair returns to the capital

The Wine Car Boot fair is to return to the capital as it kicks off a two-day fair on 27 and 28 November.

The peripatetic wine show, which is setting up shop at the West Handyside Canopy in King’s Cross, is now in its third year. This year’s fair is set to be its biggest, organiser Ruth Spivey said.

Three sessions will be running over the two days – one more than last year – with each session allowing visitors five free tastings of wine from some of London’s leading independent shops.

Tickets costs £12 per sesson, or £20 for two, and allows guests five free tastes per session, as well a wine bottle carrier to carry any bottles they buy home and a Govino tasting glass. Additional tokens can be bought for £1.

This year’s line-up includes 13 returning independent retailers, including Vinoteca, Borough Wines, Berry Bros & Rudd, Vagabond, The Sampler, Passione Vino, Winemakers Club, Dvine Cellars, New Street Wine Shop and London winery, Ldn Cru. They will showcase a selection of their top five affordable wine, which are also available to purchase by the bottle.

Also taking part for the first time are Corney & Barrow, Hampshire based Caviste, new Brixton-based independent specialist New Zealand Cellar, and OWLoeb, who will be showcasing its kegged wine-on-tap.

This year will also see the inclusion of a  ‘Drinks Corner’ discussion room, and a 60-second ‘Carr’s Water Biscuit challenge’. Jancis Robison will be selling her best-selling titles, and Winerackd will be demonstrating wine-by-the-glass gadget, Coravin, and specialist glassware Zalto.

Street food is being provided by Bob’s Lobster, Traiteur, wood-fired pizza makers Made of Dough and Korean taco and burrito specialist Kimchinery. Tuscan olive oil producer Corte Malgiacca and single estate chocolatiers Cocoa Runners will also be on hand, the latter selling its limited edition Wine Car Boot Collection chocolate box.

The event was founded by Spivey in August 2013 in a bid to move consumers away from the supermarket aisles and get them tasting interesting wines in a relaxed setting, with street food and music.
