Badet Clément purchases Languedoc co-op
Burgundian négociant, Badet Clément, has announced the acquisition of the Languedoc-based Monze Cave Cooperative making it a larger player in the French region.
With a reported investment of €6.5 million, the producer of Delauney and Les Jamelles has taken “a big step” towards becoming one of the Languedoc’s biggest players employing 34 people in the region and turning over €40.9m, 66% from exports, from its assets there.
The co-op is located in the Aude department, 15km south-east of Carcassonne and the investment not only includes the purchase of the land and buildings but also the installation of “a quality operation” as Badet Clément intends to use the site for the vinification and ageing of its premium wines in a new “state-of-the-art” winery.
The new facility also has a capacity of 50,000 hectolitres, five times more than its operation in Marseillette. It will also add an ageing cellar, an analysis laboratory, a tasting room and a cellar door shop.
“This major investment is a logical development of our evolution towards the upstream sector after the signing three years ago of an important long term supply contract with several growers situated between the Aude and Hérault departments,” said co-founder Laurent Delaunay. “It’s also a fitting way to mark the 20th anniversary of Badet Clément.”
