Vice CEO drops $300k on lavish dinner

The CEO of Vice Media spent US$300,000 on a dinner in Las Vegas after a lucky gambling run, which included bottles of wine costing $20,000.

Shane Smith, the chief executive of the provocative news and entertainment group, reportedly spent $300,000 on a private dinner for 30 guests at the Prime Steakhouse at the Bellagio in Las Vegas during the International Consumer Electronics Show in January, as reported by the New York Times.

His company was last year valued at $2.5billion, however Smith reportedly picked up the tab for this lavish dinner from his own pocket, dipping into his $1 million winnings made throughout the week.

Some of the wines drunk throughout the evening were said to have cost more than $20,000 a bottle

Brooklyn-based Vice has grown from a free, Montreal monthly into a global media behemoth, with Technology Crossover Ventures and A+E Networks each investing $250 million for 10% stakes in the company last year.
