Frapin adds quarter-century Cognac

Cognac Frapin has launched a 25-year old Cognac laid down in 1988 to its portfolio of vintage expressions.

Made from grapes grown in the “Chez Piet” area of Frapin’s estate in the chalky Grande Champagne region, the Cognac comes from a year of hot, dry weather and low yields.

For Frapin’s cellar master Patrick Piveteau, the resulting ripeness of 1988 made it an obvious candidate for producing a vintage expression. He explained: “The aromatic specifications of these eaux de vie, as well as their structure and balance, were key in determining our choice to produce a vintage straight after distillation.”

Introducing this latest addition to the range, Frapin described the 1988 Cognac as offering “a nicely balanced bouquet of candied fruits and nuts,” followed by “soft, woody aromas, rancio and cigar box notes” that characterise styles made in the Grande Champagne region.

Bottled at 41.5% abv, Cognac Frapin Millésime 1988 is available through exclusive UK distributor McKinley Vintners in packs of six 70cl bottles, each presented in a gift box. Just 1,000 bottles have been produced and are expected to carry an RRP of around £160.
